Encouragement wall
Words from people who've walked this road
A quiet place to read kind notes and lived-experience tips from the MS community — and to leave one of your own.
This week's prompt
What do you wish someone had told you in the week you were diagnosed?
You may have heard "fight fire with fire", I propose, " Fight MS (Multiple Sclerosis) with MS (Mindful Stillness). If you know in advance you have something physically and/or mentally challenging ahead, take a few moments to be still and take a self-assessment. Ask, "Where am I currently at on a scale of 1-10 physically/mentally?" Be honest with your self and if you find you are on the weaker side of the scale delay the challenging tasks if possible until you are rested or ask for help. This has prevented me from over extending myself at times and being frustrated feeling defeated. It's about beating MS in any small battle and living to fight tomorrow.
Mark· 3 years with MS· 1mo agoIt’s ok to take time to process each emotion as it comes to you. Don’t get lost in googling your lab results. Find a supportive community even if it’s online but know that people don’t usually post the good stuff or just because things are swell, so you’ll see a lot of posts about flare ups, symptoms, relapses, insurance issues, med issues. Don’t let that scare you! You will be ok. One day at a time.
