Chapter four
Practical next steps
The everyday work of moving forward — your care team, your appointments, your questions.
Build your care team
You don't have to do this alone. A typical MS care team includes a neurologist (ideally one who specializes in MS), an MS nurse, your GP or primary care doctor, and as needed: a physical therapist, occupational therapist, mental health support, and a urologist or ophthalmologist. You don't need everyone at once — build the team as you need it.
A few more practical things
- Work: Disclosure rules vary depending on your role and country. In many cases you're not obligated to tell your employer, but it's worth understanding what applies to your situation.
- Driving & daily life: Most people with MS continue driving and working normally. Adjust as your body asks you to, not before.
- Exercise: Even small amounts of gentle exercise today can make a meaningful difference tomorrow — easing fatigue, supporting strength, and nurturing the wellbeing of your future self. Every small step truly counts.
- Tell people on your terms: You don't owe anyone an announcement. Share when and how feels right.
